A Heart of Righteousness

As I prayed for 2021, I saw a vision of an eye doctor's office. God was the eye doctor, and His Church was the patient looking at a lettered eye chart to test vision.  The patient, the Church, kept asking for different glasses, because she was having a hard time seeing the bottom line clearly. God, the eye doctor, was not concerned about the glasses or the equipment in front of the eyes.  Instead He had a stethoscope on her heart (2 Thes 2:4). He listened and said, “The heart is not right, so you cannot see clearly." The problem is not the vision. It is the heart.

We want clear sight when it comes to the things of God and the future, but we are lacking perspective.  We can think it's simply a case of upgrading our lenses; finding a new approach to Bible reading, or a new type of worship, etc. But none of those things will work, because they do not address the real issue; our hearts need to come back into right relationship with the Lord and one another.

This is the season to pray for deep cleansing. God is calling us to a higher standard of righteousness and holiness. We need our hearts so pure that our spiritual eyesight follows suit. We need to repent for looking to outside things to fix the problems and turn to God. Let us welcome the righteousness of God.

In the current climate, it's so easy to look around and say "that is the problem" or "those people are the problem." God wants us to stop pointing fingers. Allow Him to put the stethoscope to your own heart so that He can recalibrate you. Let Jesus show you what needs to be changed and refined in your heart, motives, ways of thinking and your speech.

Matthew 5:8 - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

1 John 2:9-11- He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.  He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
